Come Unto Me...

In Matthew 11:28-29, Jesus says, "Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls."

His Yoke

A yoke is something that is meant to keep oxen together so they can work to perform a certain task. But this yoke Jesus tells us to take is a yoke of rest.

A yoke will keep you from going off and doing your own thing. A yoke will keep you from slowing down or speeding up and going your own pace. A yoke will require that you actually do something instead of laying down to die.

We take up the yoke of the world, of striving for things which perish, of seeking the favor of men, and of walking together in the world as part of the world, instead of as pilgrims simply passing through.

But the yoke of the world is not a yoke of peace. Even the so-called peace of the world is turmoil and leads to slavery under the rule of wicked men.

Or perhaps we take up the yoke of false religion, which often even in the Church disquises itself as truth. It sounds good. It strikes a chord in us. It sounds like peace, like enlightenment, like liberation.

But the yoke of false religion and the doctrines of men is not a yoke of peace. Even the so-called peace of false truth is turmoil and leads to spiritual blindness, deception, and separation from the truth God.

But the yoke of Jesus is a yoke of peace and of rest. In fact, he calls those to his yoke who labor and are heavy laden. You know an amazing thing about his yoke? Not only do we share in his work, but he shares in ours.

Your responsibilities do not end when you take up the yoke of Jesus. But something amazing does happen: he carries your burdens as he walks right there beside you.

You see, his yoke is easy, and his burden is light. Our own yoke, or the yoke of the world, will weigh us down until we don't know how we're going to make it through another day.

But when we take Jesus' yoke upon us, we find that it is light, it does not weigh us down. We find that we look forward to another day, because we know that Jesus will be right there with us, carrying our burden beside us, leading us where we should go.

Altar Ministry - click to enlarge Prayer Requests & Praise Reports

Prayer for Eyes – Ben writes, Please pray for our friend Connie, who has been having problems with her eyes. The doctors think it might be a certain disease, and are running tests. Please pray for peace, for wisdom and direction for the doctors, and for the healing hand of the Master to touch her eyes and speak healing into her.

Pray For Us! Please pray that God will continue to move through this ministry in an even greater measure. Without your prayers, our labor will not have much effect. But when the work of the ministry is backed by prayer, great things will happen!

Visit our prayer center to post requests or pray for those who daily request prayer. If you wish to be a prayer partner and have the requests e-mailed to you, contact us.
