Written in Heaven

What is Written?
Psalm 139:16 says that even as we were being formed in our mother's womb, before our first day, all the days fashioned for us were written in God's book. And Revelation 13 and 17 talk about our names being written in the Lamb's Book of Life from the foundation of the world. Is this talking about predestination? Are all our days and our eternal destiny already determined for us, or do we have a choice in what we do and who we serve?
Today we tackle these questions and answer them in light of what the Bible tells us about free will, God's omniscience, and our eternal destiny.

Is Your Name Written in Heaven?
Revelation tells us that the names of those who will believe are written in the Lamb's Book of Life from the foundation of the world. That means that if you will spend eternity with Jesus, your name was written in that book before you were even conceived. Is this predestination? Is it really not God's will that none should perish but that all should be saved?
It is evident throughout all of Scripture that God does give us choices. Even from the very beginning, with the very first man on the very first day, we see this is so. God did not tell Adam to not eat from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil and then will him to disobey.
From the foundation of the world, God knew everything you would do, every choice you would make, every time you would fail, every thought you would think, and they were written in his book. He does not only see every particle of dust in the entire universe all at the same time, he also sees every moment of time from beginning to end. His knowledge of those events does not cause them to happen. He does not know they will happen because he has chosen to make it so; rather, he knows they will happen simply because they will. He's been there. His vision is not limited by time. God sees it all.
Your yesterdays are written in God's Book. Your time here right now is written in God's Book. What you will do after you leave here today is written in God's Book. Your years to come are written in God's Book. And the condition of your soul at the moment you take your last breath is written in God's Book.
So every day of your life is written in God's book, and your name either is or is not written in the Lamb's Book of Life, from the foundation of the world. And instead of worrying about whether you're in there, just make sure you use your power of choice to choose to accept God's free gift of Salvation, and then to continue walking in it. And if you do, and you take your last breath in that condition, then I can tell you right now, your name most certainly IS written in the Lamb's Book of Life, and has been from the foundation of the world.
Is your name written in heaven? Make sure today that you make that life-long decision to accept Jesus as your Lord and Savior, and to walk with him every day of your life.
