Don't Be Troubled – Get Busy!
Last week we talked about the troubled times in which we live, and read the words of Jesus telling us, "Do not let your heart be troubled."
This week we go a little bit further, and ponder the consequences for being only hearers of the Word and not doers, for we must work while it is day; the night is coming in which no one can work. It's not time to feel sorry for ourselves and worry; rather, it's time to get busy!

What Time is It?
there are things going on today that will effect every single one of us, and it's important that we have our focus and our priorities in the right place -- not only in our hearts and minds, but in our hands and in our feet.
It's not time to panic and pull all your money out of the bank. Rather, it's time to get busy.
It's not time to fill your cellar full of whiskey so you can stay drunk through the days ahead. Rather, it's time to get busy.
It's not time to call your psychologist to set up an appointment to help you deal with anxiety. Rather, it's time to get busy.
Jesus did not say "If you hear my words and believe them," or, "If you hear my words and tell them to others," but, "If you hear my words and DO them." And we could very well comment, "It's time to get busy." And he says that if we put his words into action, then no matter what comes up against us or what happens in our life, our house will stand, because it is founded upon the rock.
How will we react when our personal therapy sessions are interrupted by global disaster? How devastated will we be when we discover that giving an offering does not help us get or keep that dream house or that fabulous car or wardrobe? How disillusioned will we find ourselves when our positive confessions and visualizations have absolutely zero power over our crumbling circumstances?
We need to make sure that our house is not built upon the sand, and that we are not just hearers of God's Word, but doers. Let's take the message of the Gospel to the street while we still have time! The night is coming in which no one can work.
The Pharisees accused Jesus of breaking the Sabbath because he healed people on it. And yet, they were just using that as an excuse to accuse him. It was their "sabbath day excuse." What's yours?
"I just don't know what to say, so I don't witness to people. I'm a silent witness, and don't need words." Was that the example of Jesus, or did he do both? Perhaps it's just a sabbath day excuse.
"I'd like to visit people in jail, in the hospital, or just reach out to those who need to see Jesus, but I'm so busy, and it's just not my calling." But was that what Jesus said in his parable of the sheep and the goats? Or did he condemn those who came up with such sabbath day excuses?
"I wish I could give more money to my church and to the spreading of the Gospel, but I just don't have the money. I can't give a tithe, much less an offering." But how much do we spend on television and other forms of entertainment? How many dollars or even quarters pass through our fingers every month on things that serve no purpose but to satisfy our own personal desires? Certainly it is not a sin in and of itself to spend money on things you enjoy, and it does support the economy. However, let's make sure we're not using just another sabbath day excuse.
A sabbath day excuse says, "I need to rest, that's not my calling, I don't have the money, I don't have the time, it's not in my nature, I just am not cut out for that." But one who is a doer of the Word and not a hearer only will say, "I don't care what it costs me or how uncomfortable it makes me feel, it's not about me anyway! I will get busy, I will work while it is still day!"
For the night is coming in which no one can work.
